Barcodes & labels

Barcodes generated, labels printed.

Give every product and variant an EAN-13 barcode from your own prefix, keep the manufacturer’s codes beside it, and print labels on your thermal label printer straight from a product, a goods receipt or the labels page. Then scan them at the till.

  • EAN-13 codes generated from your own prefix
  • Several barcodes and pack sizes per product
  • Labels for common thermal roll sizes, or your own size
  • Print from products, receipts, transfers and batches

What is Barcodes & labels in Flowyana?

Flowyana barcodes and labels is barcode label printing software built into your inventory. It generates EAN-13 barcodes for products and variants from your own prefix, keeps several barcodes and pack sizes per product, and prints labels on thermal label printers from a product, a goods receipt or the labels page. Retailers in the UAE and the Gulf label new stock in minutes, and the till scans it straight away.

Without it, labelling is a side project. Someone exports the product list, pastes it into a separate label program, types in barcodes that may already belong to another item, and prints. Next month the prices change, the label program is out of date, and the shelf says one thing while the till says another.

In Flowyana the barcode lives on the product, and the label is printed from the product. Generate a code once and it is the code the till scans, the code on the goods receipt and the code in every report. Print labels from the document you are already holding, such as the receipt for today’s delivery, and the quantities fill themselves in.

Real products come in more than one shape, so a product can carry several barcodes: the manufacturer’s, your own, and one per pack size with its quantity. Scan the single and you sell one; scan the case and you sell twenty-four.

What it does

Barcodes & labels, in practice.

EAN-13 from your prefix

Codes are numbered from your own prefix with the check digit worked out, and never clash with a code already in use.

Generate missing in bulk

Select products and give every product and variant without a barcode its own code in one step.

Automatic on save

Switch on auto-generate and every new product or variant gets a barcode the moment it is saved.

Several barcodes per product

The manufacturer’s code, your shelf code and older codes all scan to the same product.

Pack sizes that scan

Give a case or a strip its own barcode and quantity, so one scan sells twelve or twenty-four.

Labels for real label printers

Common thermal roll sizes, two- and three-across rolls, or a custom size you measure.

Choose what prints

Name, SKU, price, brand, batch number and expiry date: switch each on or off per print run.

Print from where you are

From the product list or a product, a goods receipt, a purchase order or bill, a stock transfer, a batch, or the labels page.

How it works

Barcodes & labels, step by step.

  1. 1

    Set your barcode prefix

Keep the in-store prefix, or enter your GS1 company prefix. Choose whether new products get a barcode automatically when they are saved.

  2. 2

    Fill the gaps

Select products on the list and generate codes for every product and variant without one. Existing manufacturer codes are kept as they are.

  3. 3

    Pick the label

Choose a roll size or enter a custom size, then tick what the label shows: name, SKU, price, brand, batch or expiry. A preview shows the result.

  4. 4

    Print and scan

Print from the product, the goods receipt or the labels page on your label printer, stick them on, and the till scans them straight away.

In depth

A closer look.

EAN-13 barcode generator for products and variants

Every generated code is a valid EAN-13: your prefix, a running number, and the check digit worked out for you. The prefix can be two to ten digits; new workspaces start on an in-store prefix that suits codes used only in your own shops, and you can change it to your GS1 company prefix. Numbers are reserved as they are handed out, and any number already used by a barcode someone typed in is skipped, so two products never share a code. Variants, such as each size and colour of a shirt, get their own codes.

  • Valid EAN-13 with the check digit worked out
  • Your own prefix, two to ten digits
  • Never clashes with codes already in use
  • One code per variant

Generate missing barcodes in bulk, or on save

Most businesses arrive with a mix: some products have manufacturer codes, some have none. Select products on the list and choose “Generate missing barcodes”: every product and active variant without a code gets one, and products that already have a code are left alone. Up to 500 products go in one step. Switch on auto-generate in the inventory settings and every new product or variant without a barcode receives one as soon as it is saved.

  • Generate for a whole selection at once
  • Products with codes are left untouched
  • Auto-generate for new products and variants
  • Works from the label dialog too

Several barcodes and pack sizes per product

A product is not limited to one barcode. Keep the manufacturer’s code, your own shelf code, and the code from an older supplier on the same product; each scans to it. Pack sizes get their own barcode and quantity, so a carton of 24, a strip of 10 or a single piece each scan as the right number of units. Codes are cleaned as they are typed or scanned: stray spaces and invisible scanner characters are dropped, and Arabic-Indic or Persian digits from a scanner or keyboard still match.

  • Multiple barcodes on one product
  • Pack-size barcodes with their own quantity
  • Arabic-Indic and Persian digits still match
  • Invisible scanner characters ignored

Barcode label printing on thermal rolls

Labels are laid out for the thermal roll sizes shops actually buy: 50 × 25 mm, 38 × 25 mm, 40 × 30 mm, 58 × 40 mm, 32 × 25 mm, 25 × 15 mm and 100 × 50 mm, including two- and three-across rolls. If your roll is different, enter its measurements as a custom size. For each print run, choose what the label shows: product name, SKU, selling price, brand, batch number and expiry date. The barcode prints as EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A or Code 128, whichever your code is.

  • Single and multi-across roll sizes
  • Custom label sizes
  • Name, SKU, price, brand, batch and expiry on or off
  • Preview before you print

Print labels from receipts, transfers and batches

The best moment to label stock is when it arrives. Open the goods receipt, purchase order or purchase bill and print labels for its lines, one per unit received, adjusting any quantity first. A stock transfer can print labels for what the receiving branch is getting. A batch prints labels carrying its own batch number and expiry. And the labels page lets you build any print run by hand, from one product to a few hundred.

  • From goods receipts, purchase orders and bills
  • From stock transfers for the receiving branch
  • From a batch, with its batch and expiry
  • From the product list or the labels page

Questions

Asked about barcodes & labels.

What is barcode label printing software?

Software that gives your products barcodes and prints them on stick-on labels for shelves and items. In Flowyana it is part of inventory, so the codes you print are the codes your till and stock already know.

Can Flowyana generate EAN-13 barcodes for my products?

Yes. Set a prefix and Flowyana numbers EAN-13 codes from it with the correct check digit, one product at a time, in bulk for a selection, or automatically when a product is saved.

Do I need GS1 barcodes?

Only if your products will be sold by other retailers who ask for them. For codes used in your own shops, the default in-store prefix works. If you have a GS1 company prefix, enter it and generated codes use it.

Can one product have more than one barcode?

Yes. Keep the manufacturer’s code, your own code and any older codes on the same product. Each scans to it. Pack sizes carry their own barcode and quantity.

Which label sizes are supported?

Common thermal roll sizes such as 50 × 25 mm, 38 × 25 mm, 40 × 30 mm, 58 × 40 mm and 100 × 50 mm, including two- and three-across rolls, plus a custom size where you enter the measurements.

Can I print labels for everything in a delivery?

Yes. Open the goods receipt, purchase order or purchase bill and print labels for its lines, with the quantities taken from the document. You can change any quantity before printing.

Can labels show the price, batch and expiry date?

Yes. Choose per print run whether the label shows the name, SKU, price, brand, batch number and expiry date. The barcode always prints.

Will the barcodes scan on the Flowyana POS?

Yes. The till looks up every barcode on a product, including pack-size codes, so scanning a case sells the right quantity. Scanners that send Arabic-Indic or other digits still find the product.

What if a product already has a barcode from the supplier?

Keep it. Generation only fills products and variants that have no barcode, and it never hands out a number that a typed barcode already uses.
