VAT returns

VAT returns, prepared from your own books.

The Tax Returns report lays your posted sales and purchases out in your country’s official return: the UAE VAT 201, the Saudi VAT return, the Oman VAT return, and a standard layout everywhere else. Every box opens to the documents behind it, so checking the return takes minutes, not days.

  • UAE VAT 201 boxes, from your posted documents
  • Saudi and Oman VAT returns in their own layouts
  • Every box opens to the invoices and bills in it
  • Warnings for lines that would fall outside the return

What is VAT returns in Flowyana?

Flowyana’s VAT return report prepares your VAT return from your posted sales and purchases, in the official layout for your country. In the UAE that is the VAT 201; in Saudi Arabia the quarterly or monthly VAT return; in Oman the quarterly VAT return. Every box opens to its documents, so you or your accountant can check the return and then file it on the tax authority’s portal.

Preparing a VAT return usually means exporting sales and purchases into a spreadsheet, sorting lines by rate, and hoping nothing was missed. Credit notes get left out, till sales sit in another system, and an import of services is forgotten because nobody remembered the reverse charge.

In Flowyana the return reads the same tax postings as your ledger. Every invoice, credit note, POS sale, bill, debit note and return carries its tax rate per line, and each rate maps to its box. If a line has no rate, or falls in no box, the report tells you before you file. Once filed, lock the period so the return and the books stay matched.

What it does

VAT returns, in practice.

Official layouts

The UAE VAT 201, the Saudi VAT return (quarterly or monthly) and the Oman VAT return, with box numbers and labels matching the forms you file.

A standard return everywhere else

Bahrain and other VAT countries get a clear return covering taxable sales, output tax, purchases, input tax, exports and reverse charge.

From posted documents

Invoices, credit notes, POS sales, bills, debit notes and returns feed the boxes, the same postings your ledger holds.

Open any box

Click a box to see every document in it, with date, party, taxable amount and tax, and open the document itself.

Warnings before you file

The return flags lines with no tax rate and lines that fall in no box, so nothing is quietly left out.

Due dates shown

Each return shows its period and due date, such as 28 days after the quarter for the UAE VAT 201.

Withholding returns

Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar withholding tax returns from the withholding recorded on supplier bills.

Arabic labels

Return and box names come in Arabic as well as English.

Print and export

Print the return, or export the boxes and a box’s documents to Excel, CSV or PDF for your accountant.

How it works

VAT returns, step by step.

  1. 1

    Choose the return and period

Open Tax Returns in Accounting’s Reports group, choose your country’s return, and pick the quarter or month. The due date is shown beside it.

  2. 2

    Prepare the return

Flowyana adds up every posted document’s tax lines into the official boxes, for one branch or all branches.

  3. 3

    Check the boxes

Open any box to see its documents. Fix any line the warnings point to, such as a missing tax rate, then prepare again.

  4. 4

    File and lock

Enter the figures on EmaraTax, ZATCA’s portal or your authority’s portal, then lock the books through the end of the period.

In depth

A closer look.

The UAE VAT 201 report

The UAE VAT 201 report follows the FTA’s return: quarterly, due 28 days after the period ends. It fills standard-rated supplies and their VAT, supplies under the reverse charge, zero-rated supplies, exempt supplies, standard-rated expenses and their recoverable VAT, and the totals of VAT due and recoverable. Reverse-charge VAT is shown as owed and recovered at the same time. Boxes fed only by customs data or by the portal itself, such as imports declared through customs, and the adjustment columns, are left for you to complete on EmaraTax. Zero-rated and exempt purchases are not reported, matching the form.

  • Box numbers and labels matching the VAT 201
  • Reverse charge owed and recovered together
  • Quarterly periods, due 28 days after the quarter
  • Arabic box names alongside English

The Saudi VAT return and Oman VAT return

For Saudi Arabia, the VAT return report comes in quarterly and monthly versions, due by the end of the following month. It covers standard-rated sales and their VAT, zero-rated domestic sales, exports, exempt sales, standard-rated domestic purchases and deductible VAT, imports and services under the reverse charge, and net VAT due. For Oman, the quarterly VAT return report covers supplies taxed at 5%, zero-rated supplies and exports, exempt supplies, reverse-charge purchases from outside the GCC, input VAT and net VAT payable, due 30 days after the quarter.

  • Saudi VAT return, quarterly or monthly
  • Oman VAT return, quarterly
  • Exports and zero-rated supplies kept apart

Bahrain and other countries: the standard return

Where Flowyana has no country-specific layout, including Bahrain, the standard return gives you every figure a VAT return normally asks for: taxable sales, output tax, taxable purchases, input tax, exports, reverse-charge purchases, reverse-charge tax owed and claimed, non-recoverable input tax and net tax payable or refundable. Copy those figures into your authority’s form. Kuwait and Qatar have no VAT in force as of October 2026, so most businesses there will not need a VAT return.

Every box opens to its documents

A VAT return is only as good as your ability to defend it. In Flowyana, every box that adds up documents opens to the list behind it: the document, its type, its date, the customer or supplier, the taxable amount and the tax. Each one opens the original invoice or bill. Totals that add other boxes point you to those boxes instead. You can export the return’s boxes and the selected box’s documents together, so your accountant or auditor sees exactly how each figure was built.

  • Document list for every box
  • Taxable amount and tax per document
  • Export boxes and documents together

Warnings that catch what would be missed

Two warnings protect the return. If posted lines carry no tax rate, the report shows their taxable amount and tax and asks you to pick a rate, because no rate-specific box can include them. If lines fall in no box of the return, it shows those too, so you can check how they were taxed. Both are worked out for sales and purchases separately. Fix the documents, prepare the return again, and the warnings clear.

Where Flowyana stands on e-invoicing

A VAT return report is not e-invoicing. As of October 2026, UAE e-invoicing starts for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more on 1 January 2027, and for the rest on 1 July 2027, through accredited service providers. Saudi Arabia’s ZATCA continues to bring businesses into Phase 2 integration in waves. Flowyana does not submit, clear or report e-invoices to either system, and is not an accredited service provider. It keeps the invoice data and VAT figures those systems use.

Questions

Asked about vat returns.

Can Flowyana prepare my UAE VAT 201 return?

It prepares the figures. The Tax Returns report fills the VAT 201 boxes that your sales and purchases feed, for the quarter you pick, and shows the due date. You or your accountant then enter and submit the return on EmaraTax.

Does Flowyana file the VAT return with the FTA or ZATCA?

No. Flowyana prepares the return from your books; filing happens on the authority’s own portal, EmaraTax in the UAE or ZATCA’s portal in Saudi Arabia. Flowyana does not claim FTA accreditation.

Which VAT 201 boxes does Flowyana fill?

The boxes your documents feed: standard-rated supplies, reverse-charge supplies, zero-rated and exempt supplies, standard-rated expenses, recoverable reverse-charge VAT and the totals. Boxes fed by customs or by the portal itself, such as imports declared through customs, are completed on EmaraTax.

Is there a Saudi VAT return report?

Yes. Saudi Arabia has both quarterly and monthly VAT return reports, covering standard-rated sales, zero-rated sales and exports, exempt sales, standard-rated purchases, reverse charge, and net VAT due.

Does it work for Oman and Bahrain?

Yes. Oman has its own quarterly VAT return layout. Bahrain uses Flowyana’s standard return layout, which covers taxable sales, output tax, purchases, input tax, exports and reverse charge.

Do POS sales appear on the VAT return?

Yes. Sales made at the Flowyana till, and returns of them, post into the same books and feed the same return as invoices raised in the office.

What if a document has the wrong tax rate?

Open the box, find the document and correct it before the period is locked. The return also warns you about lines with no tax rate, or lines that fall in no box, so they don’t slip through.

Can I see which invoices make up a box?

Yes. Every box that sums documents opens to a list of them, with date, party, taxable amount and tax, and each one opens the original document.

How do I stop changes after I file?

Lock the books through the end of the period. Nothing dated on or before the lock date can be posted, edited or deleted, so the filed return stays matched to your books.
