What is Owner profit insights in Flowyana?

Flowyana owner insight widgets are dashboard tiles that answer the questions an owner asks about profit: when do we sell, which items make money, which categories earn the best margin and how does this month compare with last. They read from your sales, stock costs and till records, and each one follows the date range and branch you pick. They suit retailers and restaurants in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.

Turnover is easy to see and profit is not. A busy shop can sell a lot of low-margin items, and a restaurant can fill its tables with dishes that cost almost as much as they bring in. The widgets put cost beside revenue, so you see profit per item and per category rather than sales alone.

Profit figures are honest about what is known. Margins use only the sales where the cost of the item is known, and the widget tells you what share of sales that covers. Cost comes from the stock cost booked with each sale, so it is as good as the purchase prices and recipes you have recorded.

You arrange these widgets on your dashboard like any others, and each person sees only the branches and data their role allows.

In depth

A closer look.

Sales trend, heatmap and period comparison

The sales trend plots daily net sales with the previous period beside it. The heatmap shows the average net sales for each weekday and hour, and names the busiest slot. Period comparison sets this period against the one before for revenue, number of bills, average bill, items per bill, gross profit, margin, expenses and profit after recorded expenses. Payroll is not included in that expense figure.

  • Net sales against the previous period
  • Weekday and hour heatmap with the peak named
  • Bills, average bill and items per bill
  • Profit after recorded expenses, payroll excluded

Item profitability and category margin

Item profitability lists the most and the least profitable items, with units sold and margin, at the cost the stock booked. Category margin shows net sales and margin per product category. Both tell you how much of your sales have a known cost, because a margin on half-costed sales would mislead. Items you have not costed show as unexplained rather than being counted as free.

  • Best and worst items by profit
  • Margin by category
  • Share of sales with a known cost shown
  • Works from the stock cost booked with each sale

Food cost and menu engineering for restaurants

Food cost percentage divides the cost of till sales by their net sales and bands the result as good, watch or high, with last period beside it. Menu engineering sorts every menu item into one of four groups by how popular it is and how much it earns: stars to keep, plowhorses to reprice or re-cost, puzzles to promote and dogs to rework or remove. These two appear only in restaurant workspaces.

  • Food cost percent with a good, watch or high band
  • Stars, plowhorses, puzzles and dogs
  • Recipes feed the cost of each dish
  • Restaurant workspaces only

Cash over and short, and returns

Cash over and short compares the cash counted at each counter close with what was expected, and lists the sessions that came out over or short. The returns widget shows returns against till bills as a share of till sales, with the reason given for each: damaged, wrong item, quality issue or other. Together they point at the tills and the items that need a conversation.

  • Over and short per counter close
  • Returns as a share of till sales
  • Return reasons grouped
  • Based on closed counter sessions and till returns

Questions

Asked about owner profit insights.

What is a restaurant food cost percentage?

Food cost percentage is the cost of the food sold divided by the net sales from it. In Flowyana the widget works it out from till sales and the cost the stock booked, and shows good, watch or high against last period.

What is menu engineering?

Menu engineering sorts menu items by popularity and profit into stars, plowhorses, puzzles and dogs, so you know what to keep, reprice, promote or drop. Flowyana shows it as a widget for restaurants.

Which items make me the most profit?

The item profitability widget lists your most and least profitable items with units sold and margin, using the cost booked with each sale.

Can I see when my business is busiest?

Yes. The sales heatmap shows average net sales by weekday and hour and names the busiest slot.

Can I compare this month with last month?

Yes. Period comparison shows revenue, bills, average bill, gross profit, margin and expenses for this period against the previous one.

Do retail businesses see restaurant widgets?

No. Food cost and menu engineering appear only for restaurant workspaces, so retail dashboards stay clean.

How accurate are the margins?

They cover only the sales where the item cost is known, and each widget says what share that is. Items without a recorded cost are not counted as free.

Does the profit figure include payroll?

No. Profit after recorded expenses uses the expenses recorded in the Expenses module and expense claims, and does not include payroll.

Does it track cash shortages at the till?

Yes. Cash over and short compares counted cash with expected at each counter close and lists the sessions that were over or short.

Is there a restaurant dashboard with profit analytics for the UAE or India?

Yes. These widgets work in any workspace currency and are used by restaurants and retailers in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.

Can each branch manager see only their own branch?

Yes. Widgets follow the branch and data access of the person viewing them.
