What is Financial statements in Flowyana?

Flowyana financial statements software gives you the profit and loss account, balance sheet, cash flow statement, trial balance, general ledger and day book straight from your books, for any date or period. It is for owners, accountants and finance teams of small and mid-sized businesses in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and beyond.

Most small businesses see their statements once a quarter, after someone has exported, cleaned and rebuilt them. In Flowyana every sale, purchase, payment, POS session, expense and payroll run posts a balanced voucher as it happens, so the statements are simply read. Run the income statement for last week or the balance sheet as of yesterday, and the figures are current.

Every number can be opened. A line on the P&L leads to its ledgers, a ledger leads to its entries, and an entry leads to the invoice or bill that made it, so a question from your auditor is answered on screen.

In depth

A closer look.

Profit and loss statement (income statement)

The P&L groups income and expense ledgers into revenue, cost of sales, operating expenses and other income, with gross profit and net profit worked out. Where a ledger sits follows its account group, so purchase accounts and direct expenses fall under cost of sales and indirect income under other income. Run it for any range, any branch, or filtered to a cost centre or project.

  • Revenue, cost of sales and gross profit
  • Operating expenses and other income
  • Any date range, any branch
  • Filter by dimension

Balance sheet with earnings carried in

The balance sheet shows assets, liabilities and equity as of any date, and checks that assets equal liabilities plus equity. Profit from earlier financial years appears as retained earnings and this year’s as current year earnings, both read from the books, so no year-end closing entry is needed to make it balance.

  • As of any date
  • Balance check on screen
  • Retained and current year earnings
  • No year-end entry needed

Cash flow statement

Cash flow uses the direct method: every movement on cash and bank accounts is classed by the account on the other side. Buying or selling fixed assets and investments is investing, loans and owners’ capital are financing, and the rest is operating. Opening balances entered in the range are shown on their own, and a note flags cash or bank accounts with no opening balance recorded.

  • Operating, investing, financing
  • Classed from the other side of each entry
  • Opening balances shown apart
  • Missing openings flagged

Behind the financial statements: trial balance, ledger and day book

The trial balance lists every account’s closing balance as of a date, grouped by account group, with total debits checked against total credits. The general ledger shows one account’s opening balance, each entry with a running balance, and its closing balance. The day book lists every posted voucher in a range, and its daily summary shows the ledgers you mark, such as cash and bank, day by day.

  • Trial balance by account group
  • General ledger with running balance
  • Day book of every voucher
  • Daily summary of chosen ledgers

Questions

Asked about financial statements.

What are financial statements?

Financial statements are the reports that show how a business is doing: the profit and loss statement (income statement) for a period, the balance sheet at a date, and the cash flow statement. A trial balance and general ledger sit behind them.

Do I need to close the year to see the balance sheet?

No. Flowyana carries earlier years’ profit into retained earnings and this year’s into current year earnings automatically, so the balance sheet balances at any date without a year-end closing entry.

How do I see a profit and loss statement in Flowyana?

Open Accounting and choose Profit & Loss, pick the date range and branch, and run it. It shows revenue, cost of sales, gross profit, expenses and other income, and you can open any line to see its entries.

Are the reports live or do I have to post first?

Live. Sales, purchases, payments, POS sessions, expenses and payroll post to the books as they happen, so the statements read current figures every time you run them.

How is the cash flow statement prepared?

Using the direct method: each cash or bank movement is classed as operating, investing or financing by the account on the other side of it. Opening balances entered in the range are shown separately, because they are not cash that moved.

Can I see financial statements for one branch?

Yes. Every statement can be read for one branch or for the whole company, which suits retail chains and firms with several offices.

Can I see profit by cost centre or project?

Yes. Filter the P&L by a dimension value, or use the Dimension P&L report to see income and expenses side by side for every cost centre, project or region.

What is a day book?

A day book is a list of every posted voucher in a date range, one row per voucher, with its debit and credit totals. You can also choose ledgers, such as cash, to show in its daily summary.

Can my accountant export the trial balance?

Yes. The trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, general ledger and day book can all be printed and exported.

Does it check stock against the books?

Yes. The Inventory Reconciliation report compares the value of stock on hand with the inventory ledgers, per branch, and lists any differences.

What is the best accounting software for financial statements in the UAE or India?

Flowyana suits small and mid-sized businesses that want live statements without an export to another system, with VAT for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman, and GST for India, posted on every transaction.
