What is Offline POS in Flowyana?

Flowyana offline POS software is a desktop till for Windows and macOS that keeps selling when the internet drops: it bills, takes payment, prints receipts and kitchen tickets, opens the cash drawer and closes the day without a connection. It is for supermarkets, shops, cafés and restaurants where a lost connection must never stop the queue, in India, the Gulf and beyond.

A cloud-only point of sale stops at the worst moment, usually the busiest hour. An offline-first till keeps everything a sale needs on the device itself: products, prices, menus, modifiers, offers, customers and the open cash session. Selling never waits for the network.

Completed sales are stored on the till before they are sent, so a dropped signal loses nothing. When the connection is back, each sale reaches stock, the cash session and the books just as an online sale would. The till shows how many sales are waiting, and anything it cannot settle on its own goes to a screen where someone decides.

Restaurants keep their whole floor running: one till serves the branch’s tables to waiters’ handhelds and other tills over the restaurant’s own network, so orders reach the kitchen even with the internet down.

What it does

Offline POS, in practice.

Sells with no connection

Products, prices, menus, modifiers and customers are kept on the till, so scanning, billing and taking payment never wait for the internet.

Prints and opens the drawer

Receipts, kitchen order tickets and the cash drawer run from the till itself, over the shop’s own network or by USB.

Day close offline

Open the till, take an X report and close the day with a Z report and cash count, online or not.

Cashier PIN works offline

Each cashier unlocks the till with their own PIN, once the till has been online to learn it. A restart puts the counter straight back to work.

Offers applied offline

Automatic offers such as buy X get Y, multi-buy and happy hours work the same online and offline.

Batches, serials and daily prices

Batch and expiry rules, serial numbers and the day’s prices are applied at the till without a connection.

Sales sent on later

Every completed sale is stored on the till first and sent as soon as there is a connection, then posts to stock, cash and the books like any other sale.

A status you can see

The till shows whether it is online and how many sales are waiting, and a Sync & conflicts screen lists anything it could not settle on its own.

Restaurants keep their floor

In a restaurant, one till serves the branch’s floor to waiters’ handhelds and other tills over the restaurant’s own network, so tables and kitchen tickets keep moving with the internet down.

Exceptions flagged afterwards

Anything done offline that breaks a rule, such as a return past its window with no approval, is flagged in a report so a manager can review it.

Offline tills on Retail and Restaurant

The offline desktop app comes with Retail and Restaurant plans: on one device per branch with Starter and three with Growth, plus one more for each extra till.

How it works

Offline POS, step by step.

  1. 1

    Install and pair the till

Install the desktop app on a Windows or macOS computer and pair it to your workspace and counter.

  2. 2

    Let it learn the catalogue

While online, the till takes your products, prices, menus, offers and cashiers.

  3. 3

    Sell as normal

Scan, bill, print and take payment. If the connection drops, nothing changes at the counter.

  4. 4

    Reconnect

When the internet returns, waiting sales are sent and post to stock and the books.

  5. 5

    Check the exceptions

Review the Sync & conflicts screen and the exception reports for anything done offline that needs a look.

In depth

A closer look.

An offline POS that keeps the whole sale local

Everything a sale needs is held on the till: the catalogue and barcodes, branch and daily prices, menus and modifiers, offers, customers, cashiers and their permissions, and the open cash session. Scanning, discounts within the cashier’s limit, offers, batch and serial rules, payment, the receipt and the drawer all work with no connection. A cashier unlocks the till with their PIN, and a restart does not log the till out.

  • Catalogue, prices and offers on the till
  • Cashier PIN and permissions offline
  • Receipts and drawer offline
  • Restart without signing in again

Sales that catch up on their own

Each completed sale is saved on the till before it is sent, so nothing is lost when the connection drops mid-sale. When the till is back online it sends what is waiting and takes any changes made in the back office, such as new prices. Synced sales post to stock, the cash session and the accounts through the same flow as online sales, so there is no offline pile to reconcile by hand.

  • Saved on the till first
  • Sent automatically when online
  • Same posting as online sales
  • Back-office changes come down too

Restaurants on the local network

In a restaurant branch, one till hosts the floor for the branch: waiters’ handhelds and other tills connect to it over the restaurant’s own network, and kitchen printers sit on the same network. With the internet down, waiters keep taking orders, tables keep their state, and tickets keep printing at each station. A second till that loses touch with the host keeps its own bills and hands them back when it reconnects.

  • Waiters’ handhelds stay connected
  • Tables and orders kept in step
  • Kitchen tickets keep printing
  • Bills handed back after a break

Visibility and control afterwards

The till shows whether it is online and how many sales are waiting. The Sync & conflicts screen lists anything the till could not settle on its own, with the choice to keep the till’s version, retry it or take the server’s. In the back office, exception reports flag offline actions that need a manager, such as a return accepted past its window, or an offer applied while the till’s clock was off.

  • Online status and waiting count
  • Sync & conflicts screen
  • Return and offer exception reports
  • Devices paired and revoked centrally

Questions

Asked about offline pos.

What is an offline POS?

An offline POS is a point of sale that keeps selling, printing and taking payment when the internet connection drops, and sends its sales on once the connection returns. In Flowyana that is the desktop till app for Windows and macOS.

Does the Flowyana POS work without internet?

Yes, on the desktop till app. It sells, prints receipts and kitchen tickets, opens the cash drawer and closes the day offline. The browser till needs a connection.

What happens to sales made offline?

They are stored on the till and sent when the connection is back. Each one then posts to stock, the cash session and the books exactly as if it had been made online.

Can cashiers log in while offline?

Yes. Cashiers unlock the till with their own PIN, which works offline once the till has been online since the PIN was set.

Do kitchen order tickets print offline?

Yes. Kitchen printers on the restaurant’s network or connected by USB keep printing, and waiters’ handhelds stay connected to the branch’s till over the local network.

Do offers and discounts work offline?

Yes. Automatic offers apply the same way online and offline, and cashier discount limits are kept on the till.

How do I know if sales are still waiting to send?

The till shows its online status and how many sales are waiting. A Sync & conflicts screen lists anything that needs a decision, with options to keep the till’s version, retry or take the server’s.

What if two tills changed the same thing while offline?

Most cases settle on their own. Anything that cannot is listed on the till’s Sync & conflicts screen for someone to decide, so nothing is overwritten silently.

How many tills can work offline?

It depends on your plan: Starter plans of Retail and Restaurant include the offline app on one device per branch and Growth on three, and an extra till adds one more device in any branch. Tills are paired and revoked under Point of Sale, Devices.

What is the best offline POS software for shops and restaurants in the UAE or India?

One that sells, prints and closes the day with no connection and posts every sale to stock and the books afterwards. Flowyana’s desktop till does this for retailers and restaurants in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and beyond.
