What is Product variants in Flowyana?

Flowyana product variants inventory lets one product come in many versions, such as sizes, colours or materials, each with its own SKU, price, cost, barcode and stock. It is for clothing, footwear, accessories, hardware and any retailer or distributor whose products come in options, in India, the Gulf and elsewhere.

Without proper variants, a shirt in five sizes and four colours becomes twenty separate products, and nobody can tell how the shirt is selling overall. With variants, the shirt is one product and each size and colour combination is a variant under it, with its own stock at each location.

The variant builder is fast. Add an option such as Size, type or paste its values, add Colour, and every combination appears in a table where you set SKUs, prices and costs. Blank cells use the product’s values, saved sets let you reuse your size runs, and duplicate SKUs are flagged before you save.

Day to day, variants show up where you need them: a size-by-colour grid for quantities on purchase and sales documents, a variant picker at the till, and barcodes and labels for every variant.

What it does

Product variants, in practice.

A variant builder

Add an option, such as Size, and its values. Add another, such as Colour. Every combination of values appears as a variant in a table below.

Type or paste values

Type a value and press Enter, or paste a list such as S, M, L, XL in one go.

Saved value sets

Save a run of values as a set, such as your shirt sizes or shoe sizes, and reuse it on the next product. Save default values for an option too.

Own SKU, price and cost

Each variant can have its own SKU, selling price and cost. Leave a cell blank and the variant uses the product’s value.

Duplicate SKUs caught

The builder warns when two variants share a SKU, before you save.

Stock per variant

Stock is held per variant at each location, so you know how many medium white shirts are in the Mall store.

Barcodes for every variant

Generate or scan a barcode for each variant and print labels, so the till sells the exact size and colour.

Quantities in a grid

On sales and purchase documents, enter quantities for a whole product in a size-by-colour grid instead of line by line, and swap rows and columns.

Pick at the till

At the web till, pick the variant from a grid of options, with what is in stock shown.

Retire, never break history

A variant already used in stock or documents is set inactive rather than deleted, so past sales and stock stay intact.

How it works

Product variants, step by step.

  1. 1

    Add the options

On the product, add an option such as Size and type or paste its values, then add Colour or Material.

  2. 2

    Review the variants

Every combination appears as a variant. Set SKUs, prices and costs where they differ, or leave them to follow the product.

  3. 3

    Give them barcodes

Generate barcodes for the variants that have none, or scan the manufacturer’s codes, and print labels.

  4. 4

    Buy in a grid

On a purchase order, open the variant grid and enter the quantities for every size and colour at once.

  5. 5

    Sell and count

The till sells the exact variant, and stock, transfers and adjustments work variant by variant.

In depth

A closer look.

A product variants builder for size and colour

Each option is one axis, such as Size, Colour or Material, and every combination of values becomes a variant. Type a value and press Enter, or paste a whole list. Suggestions offer your saved sets and values, and any run of values can be saved as a named set for the next product. The variant table shows SKU, price, cost and whether each variant is active, and warns about duplicate SKUs.

  • Options and values, any combination
  • Paste a list of values
  • Saved sets and default values
  • Duplicate SKU warning

Price, cost, stock and barcode per variant

A variant can have its own selling price and cost, or follow the product. Stock is held per variant at each location, and every stock movement, from purchases to transfers, adjustments and sales, records the variant. Each variant can carry its own barcodes, and labels can be printed for variants just as for products. Branch prices and daily prices can be set per variant too.

  • Own price and cost, or the product’s
  • Stock per variant per location
  • Barcodes and labels per variant
  • Branch and daily prices per variant

Quantities in a grid

Typing twenty lines for one shirt is slow. On sales and purchase documents, open the variant grid from a line to see the product’s variants as rows and columns, such as sizes across and colours down, with stock shown, and enter every quantity in one place. Swap rows and columns if that reads better. At the web till, a variant picker shows the options as a grid so the cashier taps the exact one.

  • Size-by-colour grid on documents
  • Stock shown beside each cell
  • Swap rows and columns
  • Variant picker at the till

Keeping history safe

Variants that have been bought, sold or counted cannot be removed, because their history matters; set them inactive to stop selling them. If a product held stock before it was split into variants, that stock is listed under Variant not known on the Stock Alerts page, along with any variant whose stock has gone below zero, so a quick count puts it right.

  • Used variants set inactive, not deleted
  • Untraced stock listed for a count
  • Variants below zero flagged
  • Past documents unchanged

Questions

Asked about product variants.

What is a product variant?

A product variant is one specific version of a product, such as a shirt in size M and colour White. Variants share the product’s name and details but have their own SKU, price, barcode and stock.

How do I create size and colour variants in Flowyana?

Open the product, add an option such as Size with its values, then add Colour with its values. Flowyana lists every combination as a variant, where you can set each SKU, price and cost before saving.

Can each variant have its own price?

Yes. Each variant can have its own selling price and cost. If you leave them blank, the variant uses the product’s price and cost.

Does each variant have its own stock?

Yes. Stock is tracked per variant at each location, and transfers, adjustments and sales all work at the variant level.

Can I give every variant a barcode?

Yes. Each variant can carry its own barcodes, generated in bulk or scanned in, and barcode labels can be printed for variants.

How do I enter quantities for many sizes at once?

Use the variant grid on a document line. It shows the product’s variants in rows and columns, such as sizes by colours, so you enter all quantities in one place.

Can I reuse the same sizes on many products?

Yes. Save a list of values as a set, such as S to XXL, and pick it on the next product. You can also save default values for an option.

What happens if I remove a variant that has been sold?

Flowyana stops you removing a variant that stock or documents already use, and asks you to set it inactive instead, so its history is kept.

What if a product already had stock before I added variants?

Stock that cannot be traced to a variant is listed on the Stock Alerts page under Variant not known, so you can count it and assign it.

What is the best variant inventory software for clothing and shoe shops in the UAE or India?

One that builds size and colour combinations quickly, keeps stock and barcodes per variant, and lets you enter quantities in a grid. Flowyana does this for fashion, footwear and lifestyle retailers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and beyond.
