Salary structures & tax tables

Salary structures and tax tables that do the payroll maths.

Build each employee’s pay from a basic salary and components: allowances, deductions, reimbursements, employer contributions and income tax worked out from your own tax bands. Overtime and lateness rules come from the attendance policy.

  • Earnings, deductions, reimbursements and employer contributions
  • Fixed, percentage, formula or tax-table components
  • Income tax from tax bands you define
  • Overtime pay and lateness deductions from attendance

What is Salary structures & tax tables in Flowyana?

Flowyana salary structure software defines how each employee is paid, for businesses that run payroll in-house: a basic salary plus components for allowances, deductions, reimbursements, employer contributions and income tax. When payroll is generated, these rules turn attendance and leave into payslips. They are for businesses in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere that want payroll worked out from rules rather than typed into a spreadsheet each month.

Each component says what it is and how it is calculated: a fixed amount, a percentage of basic or of gross, a formula, or tax from a tax table. A formula can read the basic, gross pay, paid and working days, overtime hours, late minutes and earlier components, so caps such as “12% of basic but no more than 1,800” are written once.

Income tax comes from tax tables you define: bands with a rate each and a yearly tax-free amount. Flowyana works out the year’s tax on the taxable lines and spreads it across the pay periods. Overtime and lateness rules come from each employee’s attendance policy, and a payroll policy decides what counts as a paid day and how one day’s pay is worked out.

Flowyana does not supply tax bands or statutory filings. You enter the rules that apply to your business, and the payslips show every line so they can be checked.

What it does

Salary structures & tax tables, in practice.

Five kinds of component

Earnings, deductions, reimbursements, tax and employer contributions, each with its own name, code and order on the payslip.

Five ways to calculate

A fixed amount, a percentage of basic, a percentage of gross, a formula, or tax from a tax table.

Formulas that read pay data

Formulas can use basic, gross, paid days, working days, overtime hours, late minutes and earlier components, with functions such as MIN, MAX and ROUND.

Pro-rating per component

Choose for each component whether it shrinks with unpaid days. Earnings pro-rate by default; fixed deductions do not.

Tax tables

Define income-tax bands with a rate each and a yearly tax-free amount. Tax is worked out on the taxable lines for the year and spread across the pay periods.

Employer contributions

Contributions the company pays on top of pay appear on the payslip but are never taken from net pay.

Overtime pay

Turn on overtime in the attendance policy, set the rate, such as 1.5×, on basic or gross, and optionally pay only approved overtime.

Lateness deductions

Deduct lateness by the minute, or half a day of basic for every set number of late arrivals, with early leaving counted if you choose.

Payroll policy

Pay every working day except unpaid leave, or only days attended plus paid leave, and choose how one day’s pay is worked out.

Post each component where it belongs

Each component posts to its usual ledger, or to one you pick, such as recovering an employee advance through a deduction.

Under Settings, enter your income-tax bands and the yearly tax-free amount.

  3. 3

    Build structures

For each employee set the basic, currency, pay cycle and effective dates, then add components.

  4. 4

    Set overtime and lateness

In the attendance policy, turn on overtime pay and choose how lateness is deducted.

In depth

A closer look.

Salary structure components for every part of pay

A component is an earning, a deduction, a reimbursement, a tax line or an employer contribution. It is calculated as a fixed amount, a percentage of basic, a percentage of gross, a formula, or from a tax table. Every component is first worked out on full pay, then reduced for unpaid days if it is set to pro-rate. Percentages of gross are worked out after the others, so their order does not change the result, and tax comes last.

  • Earnings, deductions, reimbursements, tax and employer contributions
  • Fixed, percentage, formula or tax table
  • Pro-rate per component
  • Taxable flag on each line

Payroll tax tables from your own tax bands

A tax table is a list of bands in ascending order, each with an upper limit and a rate, the last one open-ended, plus a yearly tax-free amount. A tax component uses one table. At payroll, the period’s taxable pay is turned into a yearly figure, the tax-free amount comes off, the bands are applied, and the year’s tax is spread evenly across the pay periods. The line can carry its own name on the payslip, such as Income tax.

  • Bands with a rate each
  • Yearly tax-free amount
  • Spread across weekly, two-weekly or monthly periods
  • Your own label on the payslip

Overtime and lateness from attendance

Each attendance policy can turn on overtime pay, with a rate such as 1.5 times the hourly rate, worked out on basic or gross, and can require overtime to be approved before it is paid. The hourly rate follows each shift’s own hours. Lateness can be ignored, deducted by the minute, with early leaving counted if you choose, or charged as half a day of basic for every set number of late arrivals.

  • Overtime rate on basic or gross
  • Only approved overtime, if you choose
  • Lateness by the minute or by count
  • Rates follow each shift’s hours

Payroll policy and the books

The payroll policy sets whether every working day is paid except unpaid leave, which suits businesses that do not record attendance, or only days attended plus paid leave. It also sets how one day’s pay is worked out. Each component posts to its usual ledger: earnings to salary cost, deductions and tax to what is owed, employer contributions to their own cost, reimbursements to the employee. You can send a component to a ledger you choose instead.

  • Pay all working days or days attended
  • Daily rate by working, calendar or fixed days
  • Usual ledger per component type
  • Your own ledger where you need it

Questions

Asked about salary structures & tax tables.

What is a salary structure?

A salary structure is the recipe for one employee’s pay: a basic salary plus the components that are added or taken off. In Flowyana each employee has a structure with effective dates, its currency and its pay cycle.

Can I use a formula in a salary component in Flowyana?

Yes. A formula can use the basic salary, gross pay, paid days, working days, overtime hours, late minutes and the amounts of earlier components, and functions such as MIN, MAX and ROUND, for example MIN(BASIC × 0.12, 1800).

How do I set up income tax slabs for payroll in Flowyana?

Add a tax table with your tax bands, or slabs, and a yearly tax-free amount, then use it in a tax component. A table has tax bands with a rate for each and a yearly tax-free amount. Tax is worked out on the year’s taxable pay and spread evenly across the pay periods. Flowyana does not supply the bands; you enter your own.

Is the tax table kept up to date with the law?

No. You enter and update the bands. As of October 2026 Flowyana does not ship tax tables for any country.

What is an employer contribution?

Money the company pays on the employee’s behalf on top of their pay, such as a pension or social security contribution. It shows on the payslip and is posted as a company cost and an amount owed, but it is never taken from net pay.

Can overtime be paid automatically?

Yes, when overtime is turned on in the attendance policy. Overtime hours from attendance are paid at the rate you set, on basic or gross, and you can require overtime to be approved first.

Can late arrivals reduce pay?

Yes, if you choose. Deduct by the minute late, optionally counting early leaving, or deduct half a day of basic for every set number of late arrivals, three by default.

How is one day’s pay worked out?

The payroll policy divides the month’s pay by its working days, its calendar days or a fixed number of days you choose, such as 30. The daily rate is used for leave encashment.

Does it create PF, ESI, WPS or GOSI files?

No. As of October 2026 there are no statutory payroll returns or bank salary files. You can model contributions as components, and use the payslips for your filings.

Can I pay weekly or every two weeks?

Yes. A structure can be paid monthly, every two weeks or weekly, and tax from a tax table is spread across that many pay periods in the year.

What if a structure changes mid-year?

Each structure has an effective-from and effective-to date, so a raise starts on its date and earlier payslips keep the structure they were made from. A draft payslip can be recalculated from today’s structure.
